I have a 20 y/o Roper washer that has never given us any problem . . .until now. It won't advance the cycle and I assume the timer is gone. My questions is, should I replace the time (if that truly is the problem) at a cost of $120. for the part -or considering the age, just bite the bullet and spend $400-$500 on a new washer?

It may not be the timer. If it stops after the wash cycle it may be the lid switch.
Tell us where it stops and we may be able to have some suggestions. These are good machines, keep it as long as you can.

It stays on whatever cycle you put it on. We've been using it by putting it on wash for 10 min, then moving it to rinse for 10 min, then spin for 10 min, etc.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Ok, that sounds like the Timer. I think it is 50-50 on whether to buy a new one or fix it, depends on your situation. I would shop around because I think you can find really good deals on an exact replacement, and then you will have a new machine with one year warranty that should last another 10 to 20 years. You might find one on sale for under $300.00

Thanks so much for your feedback and advice. I appreciate it.
Looks like I'll probably replace it.
