washer will fill with water, and agitate. when it is time spin out, the motor turns, and starts to spin the tub. during this time, a clacking noise, possibly from the clutch. Motor will then stop and it will continue to drain with the pump. If I reset the button, it may or may not spin up and complete cycle

Hello. You will need to check and see if the clutch is bad on the unit. If so, it can cause the problems you are having with the washer. If the clutch is working properly, you may have a bad transmission assembly. Hope this helps.

clutch appears good.
It actually appears to me as if the motor is not going into the run winding, but staying in the start winding and thus loosing power, and running into the start winding again. I cannot see how the transmission plays into this situation. every thing works, but it cannot get to higher spin speed, |

Hello. Remove the belt from the unit and put it in spin mode. See if the motor does the same as when the belt is on it. If so, it is not the transmission. If it does not, and runs properly, It still could be the transmission. If a gear is worn down in the transmission, it will cause the unit to start slipping and loose the high spin speed as well. If it is the mototr, you will need to test and see if the motor is bad, or the control board sending power to the motor. Hope this helps.
