the right hand knob Part#8- timer knob. knob only turns, won't set washer setting. I have to turn the back thing Part #7 to wash my clothes. do I need part #8 and #9. Or do I need 7,8,9, and 14. the stick thing on 14 can be pulled out and pushed in with fingers, if knob is off.

Normally the teeth on the back of the knob will strip off so the knob is the only part you need. Clothes Washer Repair Guide

Wait you say the timer shaft will not push in and pull out with the knob on? The problem I described will not have and effect on that so you may have a timer problem. Sometimes the timer will come loose because the brackets will break off in this case you will need a timer. I would start by removing the screws at the top of the control panel and pulling the control panel down. Then looking at the timer to see if it seems to be securely in place. If it is just replace the knob as I said above. If not you may have to replace the timer.
