Model Number: LW8463W2 Brand: Amana Age: More than 10 years
I have a disliked Amana washing machine which won't stop at the end of any of the cycles. If not watched, it will just keep going through each of the cycle end-points into the next cycle, round & round, through every cycle until I notice & manually push the knob in to halt the cycle. This problem just started earlier this year (2011). Thankfully, I seldom use hot or warm water, but it is still a huge waste of water & electricity.
When I purchased my home, just about 10-1/2 years ago, the seller <j@ck@$$: ask me & I'll share his name> refused to provide any of the manuals or other documents to any of the appliances, although he was the builder & occupant, & from what I could tell, it was just months since it was completed when I bought it (I guess that counts as a new - recently built - home?). As owner of a marine technical service business, I know my way around a toolbox & have completed several service training sessions in many types of equipment. Amana seems to have nothing to offer in product support (I can't even find the numbers there) so I'm looking for answers &/ alternatives. Although I hate this machine (I've never seen a washer so sensitive & finicky about load-balancing!) I can't afford to just go out & buy a replacement, although when I do, it won't be an Amana! This is a very old machine, probably was not new when you bought the house which is why the seller didn't provide manuals.
You can try replacing the timer, but given its cost I think replacing the machine is the better option. For less than the cost of the timer you can get a good used washer, and you will be much happier.
