My GE Spacemaker Laundry washer does not agitate. The water gets filled in and the system sits idle and finally spins at the end and drains out all the water. I can hear some click sounds but nothing else.

I was told that the most common reason for the spacemaker systems to stop agitating is when we overload it and the transmission goes bad. Is this true

Please suggest what should I do next?

Thanks,
