how do I change the main seal on the maytag
I've got the inner to be taken out but I don't know how to go any further than I want to replace to seal

You need to have a service manual, and Maytag will no longer let us link to them, in fact, right now I cannot even get into the Maytag service site.
I would contact Maytag and see if they can get you a manual, or visit this site here Search Form - ApplianceDigest.com and see if they have one. You will have to join, but it is at no cost, and the downloads are free. |
Go to web site www.applianceaid.com for complete info on this fine dependable care washer.
You will need to purchase the special spanner wrench for the tub nut (left hand thread) and tub bearing set AP4372971 and seal kit AP3538707 You will also need a steel rod to pound up and out the old sleeve bearing stuck on the tranny shaft. When done, oil the bearing with light non-detergent oil. A routine job for a good mechanic. You will need 3 hours for the job, I quoted $180 for the job but probably not enough. |
Rich:
Not too bad, considering that a pro should be in and out of this job in about 45 minutes. |
