I've taken apart several parts on the washer and I've ruled out the coupler, the pump and the lid switch...they all seem to be working ok.

I've watched a video on taking out the transmission and I'm confident on doing it but once I've got it out how do I know it's faulty? How would I know if the timer is faulty?

Here's a video of my washer and the odd clicking and grinding to a halt: Estate washer problem won't spin or drain, agitate cycle grinds to halt - YouTube

Timers usually don't make any noise when they fail. You might confirm your diagnosis by trying the machine in all the wash cycles. If it does the same thing in all the cycles, chances are that your diagnosis is corect.

I saw your posts yesterday; but haven't had a chance to see the posted video--and won't be able to until later tonight. (The computer I use at work doesn't allow for video viewing).

Default it's the motor

I believe the motor is bad. I disconnected the pump from the motor and disconected the motor from the transmission and put the motor on the floor and turned on the wash/agitate cycle. The motor got hot and shut off. The question is...what caused the motor to go bad.

I tested the transmission. I took it out hooked a drill up to the coupler and spun it. The shaft seemed to rotate properly in both directions. It didn't seem to bind. I thought if the transmission was bad it would have caused drag in the motor and caused the motor to go bad.

Or maybe it's the motor that just went bad on its own.

I think I'll grab a motor from ******** and see what happens.
