I have a Kenmore 80 series heavy duty washer (110.23812100). It will not spin unless I lift the lid and close it again. I will leave the washer alone and when it is all done with the cycles I will find that it has drained but it did not spin. I have replaced the lid switch thinking this is the reason it won't spin. Any ideas on what it could be.

Here is what may be going on.

These machines are set up so that the timer must stop in order to make the transmission shift from neutral (draining) to spin. When you open the lid you manually stop the machine and this causes the machine to spin when you lower the lid.

See if changing out the timer will solve your problem.
