Model Number: a510 Brand: Maytag Age: More than 10 years
I have a broken Maytag A510 washer. I would like to keep this good old washer going but I need some help.
the main drive belt is slipping while washing. I can turn the drum but it's real tight, in both directions. It will free up and spin easily but then tighten up again. The agitator turns with the drum as well in both directions, but not freely on its own. I'm thinking I have a trans problem or a jambed up agitator. There are no bolts under the cup/lint screen on the agitator so I'm unsure how to remove it to check. Also if it's the trans, are they repairable? I'm not going to fix it if I need to replace the trans, but would consider fixing the internals of the trans if it's a cheaper part. thanks Edit. I put new belts on it last year because it smoked the drive belt. Probably the same problem. And I just put new glides and springs on the motor mount plate. It does sound like the transmission, which is not a repairable item and is replaced as a unit.
I know you want to keep this unit, but I strongly suggest using the money you would put into a new transmission to put into a new machine.
