agitator won't turn
Model Number: RAS8245EW0 Brand: Roper Age: 1 - 5 years
Drum fills with water, agitator won't turn on the wash or spin cycle, water drains. slight odor when agitator is supposed to be moving; grinding noise, no squealing noise. pile of black dust-like residue on floor under washing machine.

Most likely the problem with your washer is a worn out motor drive coupling (#13 on the break down diagram).
