Our GE washer's control knob isn't working. When we go to spin the control knob to change between Mixed Load, Speed Wash, Whites, etc. the knob will spin but it isn't actually switching which type of load you want to do.

So if we go ahead and start a load on the wash type that is already selected (since we can't change it) it seems to work as it should for the first ten minutes or so but then it isn't draining water and during the spin cycle it will spin and then stop and the door will unlock it's self over and over again so that the load stops midwash. And then we unplug the washer and plug it back in and it will keep going even though it's been unplugged--it's not actually spinning or doing anything that I can see but it's making the noise it makes during a wash cycle.

From my own research it seems like I need to replace the main control unit? Anyone else here can confirm that or have another idea? Thanks!

It does seem like the main control unit is the problem, but you will have to go ahead and replace it to be certain. Unfortunately that's about the only way to diagnose the repair on these models.

yep, that was the problem..looks like it took a hit while we were moving it in and that broke the knob somehow. also, the white drain filter plug thingy in the bottom part of the washer needed to be emptied as well.
