My washing machine began making a squealing noise mid-cycle. It will not agitate or spin. It will fill and drain. It appears to be a direct drive. Any ideas?

Please post the correct model number. Most likely starts with 110.

You are probably looking at a broken motor coupling. Despite its sound, this is an easy fix, (a little time consuming the first time). Search on this site and others and you will find details, pictures, slide shows and others about how to change the motor coupling on a direct drive Whirlpool (probably who made yours) washer. I suggest you get the parts from the nice folks who sponsor this site, it is very inexpensive.
