Washer started to squeal loudly and burning rubber during spin - washer waas loaded heavily. Took off front panel - saw nothing obvious. Turned agitator from top and initially it was binding - finally loosened up - turned machine on and it seemed OK although it was much noisier in spin cycle. Could it be just a bad belt? If so where can I find a diagram for this machine and how it comes apart? THanks burning

This sounds like a problem with the brakes or with the bearing.

Maytag will no longer allow access to its service manuals, so I can only suggest you contact them and see if they will provide one for you.
