I have diagnosed that the defrost timer is not advancing. All other part are satisfactory (heaters, and thermostat) The part store did not have the OEM part and I agreed to purchase a “universal defrost timer”. The part will work but requires a little knowledge of the system application, as there are three different wiring possibilities. 1. Continuous run hookup 2. Cumulative run hookup 3. Cumulative compressor run hookup It request’s the user to refer to the electrical wiring diagram as to which application is in use. I can not locate such, just part diagrams. Can anyone help?? Specs are: Manufacturer; General Electric Hotpoint Model # CSX24DHB Defrost timer OEM # WR9X482

That is not a universal timer. For GE, they always used a fixed time interval for defrost, so that timer will work. There is plenty of margin with this one to enable complete defrost in worst case ambient conditions.
