Model Number: LWA5545W3 Brand: Whirlpool Age: More than 10 years
Very old Whirlpool washer (could be from 1971 or 1981 says Hannah the parts tech I spoke with).
This is to be a back up washer as the older Whirlpools were quality machines prior to 2000. This one buzzes when I pull out the off on switch and starts filling with water. After that (without filling the tub completely) does not agitate or spin. I will fill the tub completely and see if it agitates (just thought of that as I write this). If that doesn't work, I need to know what switches in the controls need to be tested and/or replaced. If the problem is not in the control switches, I will need to check out the agitator motor area and spin controls in that area. Any advice will be appreciated. UPDATE: Just let the washer fill on a small load setting (water rose to top of the blades of the agitator). The buzzing sound stopped, silence for a few seconds, then another sound like the washer was attempting to move to the next cycle which lasted maybe five seconds, then a silent pause again. Then the same sound again for another five seconds or so, then nothing. Moved the load size selector to large and the machine started filling again. Switched back to small load size and the machine made the same sounds a few times then went silent. I turned the selector switch through all the selections, but nothing. Hope this new info helps. I don't think we can give you advice on a machine this old.
If you need a good backup I would buy a used direct drive Whirlpool. They are very good machines, and can be had for $100 - $150 in our area. Trust me, you will be much happer than if you try or even succeed in repairing the one you have.

Sounds like it is a piece of junk. He also has an old tub and wringer type washer that actually works! I can always use that in a pinch! Sears left a message on my broken Kenmore Front loader and I have replied to them.. Good forum so far. |

You might have a frozen pump on this washer, just remove the back panel and try to move the belt by pulling it to the left. If frozen, remove the top motor nut, pull on the belt to move the motor, then check the pump.
