I bought this washer 07/27/09 and in about 5 months the tub would keep spinning andgear mechanisum would stop. The service man tightened up the the drive block and said everything was okay, just after the warrenty expired it started it again, I bought a new drive block and installed and tightened everything. Last week it started the same thing again. Can some one tell me what I can do to stop this from happening again. Since the tub is spinning on the drive block, I was wondering about drilling & tapping two 1\4" holes through the tub into the drive block oposite from each and install 2 Stainless Steel bolts and flat washers. It is clear Whrilpool doesen't know at to do. Can some one please tell me how to fix this problen.
Thanks, J Brown.

I really don't understand what you are saying when you say the

tub would keep spinning andgear mechanisum would stop

or how you are tighteing the drive block.

You cannot do what you propose to do.

Drive blocks very rarely fail, spinning problems are usually caused by a bad clutch, and with a not too old machine bad brakes are involved.

I have not had time to go into the machine to see if the drive block is loose or not. I know the sound is like the same sound it was making before. When it ends the spin cycle you hear the brakes engage and stops then the loud bumping like something has come unsplined and makes a series of bumping until it stops bumping. After installing the drive block the machine worked fine until about 3 weeks ago when it started making the same sound as it had done before. I am going to try to check next week. This has been a head scratcher for me as well. My problem is always something that no one has ever heard of before. Any way Thank You for your time and effort, hope you can come up with something that can help me. JBrown

I would pull out the clutch and check it and the brakes.

I have a lot of those "can't figure it out problem" too. Hope you can fix yours.

Thanks I will look at the clutch. Do you have a link that shows the steps to remove the clutch. I do not want to remove only what is necessary to get to the clutch. Thank you for your reply, I appreciate you help. JBrown

This video will show you how to take off the motor, then take out the three bolts that hold the transmission in place and pull it out. The clutch will come out with the transmission.
