As soon as I turn on my Maytag Centennial washer, it begins agitating while filling. At the end of the cycle it begins filling with water and then shuts off, leaving a few inches of water in the bottom.

Sounds like a timer problem. Change it out and also clear out the pump and internal drain hoses.
