This is my washer. It is a Kenmore and says Kenmore Heavy Duty Plus on the right hand side. I've searched in vein for a model # and can't find it, anywhere. For a few weeks, the washer has been making loud screaming noises when spinning. Now, it won't spin but instead it sounds like something is trying to engage (buzzing noise) but it won't do anything. I emptied out the water with a shop vac. I love this old machine because I believe these older models will always be superior to the new products on the market. I'm not too handy but have performed a few repairs. Could this be a belt issue or do you think the transmission is blown? Thanks for any help you can offer!

To find out - stand in front of washer facing washer - do the fill hoses hook up on right or left side of machine? If on right side it is a direct drive washer, on left side it is a belt drive washer. You can also tell if belt drive by looking at the back of washer. If it has an access panel, it is belt drive - If it has a solid back, it is a direct drive.
Without a model number, it will help to know which on it is....
