Some coins slipped under the agitator and through some openings in the basket. How can I retrieve them? Is there a strainer or do I need to remove the agitator and basket assy? I am afraid that they may damage the pump

Try taking off the pump and then using a hose to see if you can wash the coins out of the basket down the drain hose and out.
