Model Number: MAH4000 Brand: Maytag Age: 5 - 10 years
Hi I have a Maytag Neptune front loader that failed on me although it ran for a while. I cannot seem to determine the drain flow rate of the washer. I used it for years in my home and my drain standpipe drained just fine.
I purchased a new washer that calls for a 2" standpipe and the older house I have has a pipe that has a pipe in the wall that is about 1.5" ID. I installed a new washer and thought I could get away with the current pipe but upon running the washer it pumps out so much water so fast that the pipe cannot accommodate the flow and it backs up. It requires a drain rate of 17 gal./min (64 L/min). So I actually have two questions: the first was just to see what the drain rate of the Maytag Neptune MAH4000 had been as it worked fine. The other is if anyone has experience with retrofitting a 1" to 1.5" pipe to 2" to allow for this greater drain rate. There is apparently a 1" to 2" converter but I can;' image how a small 2" converter at the top of a 1.5" inch pipe will allow it to accommodate the greater low. Help appreciated. |

Hello. I'm guessing your new machine is a top load. These use ($)18-22 Gallons of water per fill. The Neptune is only 4 Gallons per fill. That's why the Neptune operated O.K.. I'm betting the drain is clogged. Top load washers usually will drain the tub in abaout 1 1/2 Min. I would have a plumber clean and snake the drain line out. A 1 1/2" drain should handle that flow rate easlily. Newer installations say 2"..but you're still O.K. Please let me know..wrench..
