We recently moved to a new apt and since we had to bring the washer three floors down it took somoe beating. When we tried to use the washer again and it get filled with water the whole thing comes down to the bottom and the pooley and belt draggs. Is it possible the the shock absorbers got damaged?

Since you did not post a model number we have to assume this is a basic GE top loader. It seems like the support shocks are broken.

It is a basic GE top loader. How do I know if some or all four support shocks are broken. Is there a way to check them out or test them?

I would operate it with the front cover off, after you do a visual inspection, and see if you can determine the problem.

I already did and the whole thing comes down to the floor of the washer when filled with water, draggs and and its loud, I had to place two small wood blocks on the bottom to hold the whole drum uo while washing and spinning. Perhaps all the shocks are bad or just a couple? how do I find that out? you know it is expensive to replace all four of them. Thanks

I am sorry but unless I am there to see it and examine it I really cannot tell you any more. I would take them all off and see if you can determine the problem.
