I'm helping fixing a friend's washing machine. It will agitate, but won't drain or spin.

The pump seems like it's ok. The pulley turns.

I pressed the lid switch and it caved in. Didn't work. I had to push it back up. I didn't notice any broken pieces, but will check again. Because of it being caved in, is this the likely cause? Do I still need to check it with a multimeter?

You figured it out already. You cannot fix a lid switch once the case separates. Easy repair.
