Model Number: Fav6800aww Brand: Maytag Age: 5 - 10 years
Last week washer made a roaring sound in spin cycle then would not go past wash cycle. Read many post and followed troubleshooting from dick who helped someone else. My husband pulled out pulley assembly and greased different parts and machine is running but need info on permanent fix because it still roars sometimes in spin cycle. If you read this dick we need your help if possible.

Did your FAV6800A us the Upper Bearing ring? That will tell me if you have the older Outer Tub Bearing design. If you open the washer lid and Spin the Wash Basket as fast as you can in the CCW direction the spin direction. Will the wash basket coast to a gentle stop after several CCW revolutions? Do you hear any sound like bearing noise while you spin the wash basket by hand CCW?
How badly rusted was the One-Way Bearing in the Clutch pulley? I’m an owner like you and I have found that the machines are ready after six years plus of service life are most likely ready for a Tub Seal and tranny O-ring replacement. With this I recommend Outer Tub bearing replacement and Spinner Support bearing replacement. Read thru this thread to get a feel for what is involved to rebuild the Outer Tub. FAV6800A/FAV9800A Outer Tub bearing replacement That would give another 5 years of service life to the Outer Tub. Depending on how badly the Clutch Pulley One-Way bearings are rusted up you may need to replace it. The generic Clutch pulley 25001169 Google that P/N for best price. You can try this site also. I just found it for under $80 on a quick search. You will need the Service Manual do search of the document number and you will find it; 16022808 Revision 0 December 2003 Again read thru this thread FAV6800A/FAV9800A Outer Tub bearing replacement. I’m on the East Coast and just got home from work so I may be slow to respond at times but I will offer my support if you want to save the machine………Dick Last edited by dh1200s : 06-28-2011 at 11:13 PM. |

See this thread Maytag Neptune load unbalance go to post dated 05-14-2011, 01:56 AM permalink #53.
This owner was able to get Whirlpool/Maytag to send him a complete outer tub under the 10 yr warranty for the outer tub. See if this is an option for you. I'm sure you have a Tub Seal leak and will need to replace the Clutch Pulley if not supplied with the Outer Tub replacement……..Dick |

Hi Kristina,
My original machine is a Series 16. I have a Series 17 as a primary machine and Series 10 my test machine that I did the Outer Tub rebuild. If you decide to dive in and repair I will help you with any questions and support. If your machine does not use the Upper Bearing ring then you have the 2nd generation design of Outer Tub. The Outer Tub bearings can still be replaced. I have not done that outer tub rebuild to date but I can point you to folks/threads of owners that have. I will do the same on my series 16 machine that has the 2nd generation Outer Tub design down the road. I have also helped an owner with a Series 16 machine with the old Outer Tub design (used the Upper Bearing Ring). Not sure just when Maytag made that design change which I regard as downgrade for the DIY owner to work on. Pic of exploded view of the Clutch Pulley with the Upper Bearing ring, the Upper Bearing Ring and wash water contamination caused by Tub Seal/Tranny O-ring leak. Good Luck and shout out if I can help......... Dick |
