Model Number: mavt236aww Brand: Maytag Age: 1 - 5 years
My washer will start to fill up for the rinse cycle but the tub never fills. If it's not being watched it can run water for over an hour! It mainly does this when my mom or mother-in-law uses it. ??? My mother-in-law uses an enormous amount of powdered detergent as well as liquid fabric softener. Could it have clogged something? It can go 5 wash loads (or more) and never give ME a problem but then she may use it 1 or 2 times and it starts messing up.

Sounds like you may have a "syphon " problem, or your moms are using a higher water level, than you. Check and make sure to top of the drain pipe is at least 36 inches high off the floor(38 to 40 is preferred), and that it is not sealed or pushed down inside the drain pipe too far. Under these conditions the the fill water can be "sucked" out of the tub as it is filling. Excessive suds or softner, don't usually cause the issue you're describing. Good Luck,
