i have a whrilpool washer mod # wtw5500sq0 sometimes the spin cycle does not work and sometimes it does. Do you think this may be a clutch problem ??

It could also be a worn or damaged motor coupling,

I take for granted, you've checked for a possible article stuck between the tubs, and there aren't any strange noises.
