I have a GE combo washer and dryer (2006) with a bad lid switch. l'm wondering how hard it is to get the top jacket of the washer off to get to the switch under it...to replace it.

GE never made stacked washer/dryer units. They had other firms make then with the GE name on them.

This looks like a Whirlpool product so I am linking you to the Whirlpool manual for the stacked washer/dryer unit. See if it helps.
