Hi Rachel

Remove the front panel and check the belt and the transmission pulley.
If there is nothing wrong, most likely the problem is a bad transmission.

Hello Gene,

Thanks for responding to my post. So, I have looked at the belt and the pulley - they seem to be fine. Niether appears to be broken. Is there anything else I should be looking for when looking at them?

You said that if it is not either of these things, maybe it is the transmission. Do I have to take out the agitator, tub, and so on and work my way down to the transmission?

Is there a way to test the transmission to make sure this is the problem?

This is what happens: The washer will fill, but when it is supposed to start agitating it make a strange whhheer-er click, whhheer-er click noise. I then advance it and it spins, fills and then tries to agitate again, producing the same noise. I advance it again to get it to spin the final time.

Thanks,
Rachel

Hi Rachel

No doubts the problem is a bad transmission and it is a very hard job to replace it. If your washer is less then 5 years old, possible the transmission is still under the manufacturer warranty.
If it's not under warranty I would recommend to call a certified technician to replace it. I do not have any manuals to help you to do it yourself.

Hello,

Ok, so my washer has not been agitating for over a month. I've posted about this before and the conclusion was that I had a bad transmission. So all this time I have been filling the washer, agitating my clothes by hand, and then sending them into the rinse and spin cycles.

Well, all of sudden my washer agitates again!? Did Santa come and fix it for me? Was/is there some sort of short in the wiring? Could the problem be in the lid switch or timer? I just don't get why my washer is working again. I am wondering if this is too good to be true and how long this will last. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Any ideas on what has happened?

Thanks,
Rachel

did we establish how old this unit was ? like Gene said , you could have a faulty transmission... if the problem returns , i would disconnect power , pull off front and remove belts and turn transmission pulley by hand . see what effect this has on the tub and agitation..
