I have the magic chef heavy duty washer and it only works sometimes then shuts up we think it is the lid switch but it makes some weird noise when we try to start it sometimes..... and sometimes it doesnt work at all ......

Without a model number we are pretty limited in what we can tell you. I am guessing that given the age of this machine it may be time for a replacement rather than fight its current and future problems.
