I have read all the posts in regards to moldy washers and I need some advice. I took the advice of everyone and purchased the affresh product and used all three tablets one after the other and it still has not done anything for the smell. Is it possible there could be something wrong with the washer. Any advice will be appreciated, we're almost to the point of getting rid of the washer and going back to a regular washer. Thanks

Did you do anything else besides the Affresh? Did you read the thread Whirlpool washer smells moldy whenever idle from our forum? There are a few more solutions offered there.

Gene,
The smell is awful all of the time. We have tried the Affresh, diswasher tablets, vinegar and bleach, nothing seems to help. I beginning to wonder if something on the machine is bad, but after pulling the cover off I just can't figure out what it could be. Thanks |

It sounds very unusual. Looks like the washer has to be taken apart to find out the source of this smell.

Gene,
I've got one more thing to run by you. I pulled the bottom front panel off of the washer and just looked underneath and there is a black boot attached to the bottom of the drum where the water drains from the drum and when I squeezed the boot there was still water in it and I ran the washer on two spin cycles to make sure it was draining properly. So my question is, once the washer has finished it's last spin cycle and the water is out of the drum should there still be water sitting in that boot or should that boot/line be completely free of water and if not could that be the source of my smell? Thanks for your assistance. |

Remove the filter from the drain pump and clean it as described in the Owners manual. Perform all other cleanings described on pages 12-14. Reasonably small amount of water in the drain hose is normal.
