I have a Kenmore 80 series washer that had tripped its circuit in the middle(?) of a cycle. The tub was full of water that wasnt soapy so i figure it stopped before it drained the rinse water. After engaging the circuit I went through all the different cycles under various settings and got NO action... only humming from the motor. I got online to investigate potential causes and found strong suggetions for faulty coupler or even a faulty pump (since it was not draining either). I pulled the clothes drained the tub and hauled the washer outside for better light and access. I checked the pump and found no problems. I got to the coupler and found their wasn't a thing wrong with any of the three components. I got back online and was compelled to check the capacitor and the motor, did as much, and came up with no problems with either. Put it all back together and ran a small load cycle: the tub filled to level and then only hummed and did as much in all the different cycles that I turned the dial through. I have not allowed it to contiunue to the point of overheating or tripping any circuits. Aarrgghh!

You may have a bad motor. Unplug the machine and disconnect the motor from the machine. Leave the motor hooked up to the wiring harness and protect the wires and terminals from any metal contact.Start the machine ina spin cycle and ee if it runs. If it receives 120VAC and just hums, replace it.

Thanks that's exactly what i needed to hear...when i ran the motor test before i didn't know if the humming(and no spinning) was a good thing or not. I'm off to buy a used one and will inform the forum of the results Thanks magician59; I hope this helps any body else too!
