The agitator of my washer wont rotate and seems locked. How do I unlocked it so that i could rotate it freely. The v-belt is new and the motor runs well but can't drive the agitator because it is locked and won't move.

This washer should be in the Smithsonian!!! This is an old one. If it still spins in the spin cycle, then it could just be a worn agitator. It is not going to be easy to pull off the agitator, but, you can give it a try. Tug and pull hard. Once you get it off, fill the tub up with a small load of water, and see if the shaft of the transmission, goes back and forth like the agitator would. If it does, replace the agitator. If not the transmission is locked up, and it is time for a new washer. Tom ********************************************

Thank you very much kayakcrzy. How do I pull the agitator hard? Isn't there any nuts, screws or any thread to unwind 1st before pulling it out? or isn't there any lock or switch that I could just turn to unlock without pulling the agitator out? I learned from Sears that some washers have a special switch to lock and unlock the agitator when moving the washer. I hope my washer has this feature and I hope you could teach me how to do this. Thanks you once again.
