Model Number: LAT9804aae Brand: Maytag Age: More than 10 years
I have a hot, burning smell coming from the motor area of my washer. It also froze up and wouldn't work again until I cooled it off with a fan (I took the front panel off). First, there was a crackle as it started to spin, then a puff of smoke from the motor. I started it again and it completed the spin cycle just fine, although still a smell. I lifted it up and found the belts to be intact. I suspect that I need to replace the motor...do you agree? I'm not sure if the smell is from the motor itself, or from the belts. Also, if I replace motor, should I replace the belts at the same time? Thanks.
