I have a 1994 Whirlpool top-loading washer model LSV6233AW0 that operates normally except for it won't agitate - it sounds like the agitator is trying to do its job but is slipping somehow and all it can achieve is a little vibration.
The machine fills and drains normally, advances through the cycle of filling, attemping to agitate, rinsing, spinning, etc. I could really use some ideas of what the problem might be and what part (s) I might need to replace.
Thank you -

Thank you - Needhelp, It could be as simple as a damaged drive coupler, Part number: AP3963893
But it's most likely a bad gearcase, Part number: AP3096209
You'll need to remove the cabinet, to access the interior components, and once you've unclipped the pump and motor, you'll be able to check the coupler and manually test the gearcase to determine if there's a problem(use the 1/2 of the coupler on the gearcase input shaft to turn it in both directions and see if the agitator moves back and forth, then if the spin pawl engages and the tub spins. This should help you out, 1. Remove the two Phillips-head screws securing the front corners of the console to the washer top. 2. Tip the console back on the hinges that secure the top of the console to the washer back. ACCESSING COMPONENTS INSIDE THE WASHER CABINET Components inside the washer cabinet can be accessed by completely removing the outer cabinet as one unit. 1. Remove the console mounting screws and tilt the console into the service position. 2. Unplug the lid switch harness connector from the receptacle in the washer top. 3. Remove the cabinet mounting clips by placing the flat blade of a screwdriver in the clip . 4. Remove the cabinet by tilting it forward and pulling it away from the washer. 5. The rear panel can be tilted back for additional access to components at rear of the machine by twisting the rear panel support 90°. and then tilting the rear panel back. Good Luck, :) :) :)
