Default Questions about motor in my Maytag washer
Model Number: MAV6000AWW   Brand: Norge   Age: 1 - 5 years

Dear Sir,

I checked my 5-year old Maytag (Norge) washer (Model Number MAV6000AWW, single belt) and have some questions on its motor. After laying down the washer to front so could look at the bottom. The motor pulley was not fixed to a spot, instead it could slide in a certain range. In addition the motor pulley was not on the same flat level of the agitator and pump pulleys. It was not parallel to the base, instead it had an angle to the base.

When I started the washer without the belt on the motor, the motor ran but its edge touched its metal base and generated friction noise. When I started the washer with belt on the motor, agitator, and pump, as soon as the motor started, its pulley shifted toward the other two pulleys, then the belt loosed and the motor stopped.

Questions:
(1) Should the motor pulley be fixed to a spot therefore is not slide in a certain range?
(2) If yes, how to fix it to a spot?

Thank you very much in advance for you help.

Adam

Hi yzhong

The motor pulley should not move on the motor shaft. Most likely the pulley on your motor is worn out. I would recommend to replace it.
The new part comes with the installation instruction.

- The part number for the motor pulley AP3959676

- Here are the break down diagrams for the Maytag washer Model MAV6000AWW

Good luck.
Gene.
