Washer motor just hums. I thought the starter windings were out. Bought a new motor and it does the same thing. If I spin either motor by hand it will start. What could be the problem?

Did you look inside the pump. I found weird articles of underwear in them which caused the type of symptoms you describe.

You must have spun it with the motor off the tranny. You probably have a bad start capacitor or bad timer contacts. I would lean toward a bad capacitor AP3866194, mounted on the back wall of the washer, these sealed timers are real reliable. Also, check for a bad pin in the motor connector.

Maybe you did not plug the lid safety in.
