calypso u joint repair

Model Number: gvw9959kl1 Brand: Whirlpool Age: 5 - 10 years

ordered and installed the u-joint repair kit.noticed that the kit did not include a seal for the u-joint cover top,but instead had a form ring to install before putting on the cover top ,does this form ring replace using the seal???no mention of the seal in the instructions.
