Default Ball Valve in the gasket--what is it
Model Number: HE3T   Brand: Kenmore   Age: 5 - 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

What is the tennis ball size ball in the rubber gasket at the bottom of the drum in an HE3T washer. My washer won't drain from the tub to the pump. I'm checking the pressure switch as others have found plugged flow switch feeder lines. Is that ball a large ball valve? Or is it the cause of my fun?
Thanks, KCS

I don't think we know what it is. If you find it on the parts diagram let us know.

Default Kenmore HE 3t Washer has a ball valve

On my HE3t Kenmore washer, I opened the drum drain gasket and there is a ball valve (check valve) that is about 2 1/2 inches. It was plugged with runaway socks and rags that prevented the ball to fall down and would only seep a little water when the cycle started to drain causing a F02 code, a delayed drain code.

To access it, I ran a rinse load and then canceled it to start a drain. With the drain pump access cap off, I watched for water to enter the drain. Only a trickle enter despite there being 3 to 6 gallons of soap, awful stuff, and "water" in the drum. The filter chamber was empty (one runaway pen top). Use rubber gloves--I didn't and my hands still hurt from bleach burns and other stuff in the washer. Be very careful for shock hazards, it's a great design but it's the right conditions to get a bite of 115 volts. The bite may cause Roy and Johnny to hit you with the paddles from Rescue 51. Watch this--I wasn't bit but I took my time to get water out a little at a time at every drop.

The gasket is easy to take off in the back panel but is impossible to catch the discharge of water when plugged. Have a shop vac close by and about 3 large towel rags.

To get the gasket back into possible to avoid a leak that could take out the washer is another trick. I borrowed a spring pliers and had better luck.

There is a Utube video that shows this well for the front drain filter but I didn't find anything to help with the gasket. Don't be afraid, it's not rocket science. It saved me $382 for a Sears service and parts would be more. (I'm sure I'd be the proud owner of a new drain pump). All works great.
This site had great information on the pressure switch and other testing. Keep up the great network. Thanks to all for the help, EMTP424

Great, glad you were able to get that cleaned out and save the service call and parts.

Thanks also for the update, it is very helpful.
