Maytag Washer doesn't empty all water during spin
I have a top loading Maytag washer. Lately, when I go to take the clothes (white cycle) out of the washer, there is no standing water in the tub, but the clothes are still pretty wet. To get around this problem, I turn the dial around to the spin cycle, so that the washer spins the clothes a second time. As soon, as the spin cycle starts for the second time, a bunch of water gushes out. As the clothes spin, more water is pushed out.
Oddly enough, if I choose the "extra rinse" option, it appears like the clothes have been spun dry and I don't need to re-spin the clothes a second time.
Any ideas what the problem is?
First, check the easy stuff:Check for kinked or obstructed hoses. Also, there should be some slack in the belt. That's Maytag's way of eliminating the clutch in their design. Remove the belt and see if you can freely spin the pump pulley. If you can't turn it freely, replace it. If it turns freely, check for an obstruction. If none of these reveals the problem, you may have a worn thrust bearing. A worn bearing will cause the brake to drag, which in turn slows the spin speed. As an afterthought, you may want to make sure the drain hose isn't too far into the stand pipe. This could cause a siphon effect that can deter complete drainage.
