I have a Roper washing machine, RAS7233kq0. The machine would quit working once it hit the rinse cycle. I replaced the lid switch and now, once it hits the rinse cycle, it makes a humming or grinding noise. It will still drain but does not spin while making the noise. I have also cleaned the cold water strainer as I saw suggested on this site earlier.

Since it will drain this means the motor is working ok, so it likely the problem is with the brakes/clutch assemblies.

Look at the Sticky at the top of the page on Direct Drive Brakes to check it out.

the problem was the pump had sock in it, the humming was the motor, since the pump would not spin
