Default Whirlpool froze up
Model Number: LXR7144EQ1   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 5 - 10 years

I bought this machine used 3 years ago for $150. My renters said the washer made a load squeaking noise then wouldn't do anything except empty the water. I looked at it today, The basket seems as if it is no longer connected to whatever holds it centered (it moves very far to each side and does not spin on an axis). I though it might be a broken belt and looked at the workings by tipping it on its side. To my dismay, it does not seem to use belts. Any obvious things that go wrong with the direct drive in these machines? Is this machine a good enough washer to make it worthwhile to repair or is it just a cheap washer that I should replace?

Thanks,

John

Remove agitator and check the spin basket drive block, probably came loose. It is a right hand thread, so just turn it clockwise.
