Default Washer leaks. Replace pump? (Belt drive. Old unit.)
Model Number: LS7800XPN1   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: More than 10 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com
This unit leaked once, then worked fine, and then leaked nastily. The leak started as it was filling, at about half-full. Then, even shut off, it leaked down to a couple inches remaining. It would not drain when I selected the drain/spin cycle.

My questions:

1) I suspect the pump. Shall I replace the thing?

2) Anything else I should replace while I'm under the thing?

3) This unit does not have a removable cabinet, just a rear access panel. I think this site has directions that make sense (loosen belt from rear, then lean the unit against the wall and go under it). You agree?

PS: Anyone know how I can buy the Whirlpool washer repair manual from this site?

Thanks!

I would go to the back of the washer, tilt it forward and brace with a piece of wood. Fill the washer and check where the leak is. Could be a rusted out tub, or a bad hose, or just a bad pump.

Thanks, I can try that. But: why tilt it forward? And: how much should I tilt it?

Given that it couldn't drain itself, I'm inclined to suspect that pump, however.

You need to tilt it sufficiently to see exactly where the leak is.
