Default GE Profile top load... will not agitate
Model Number: WPSQ3120T5WW   Brand: GE   Age: 5 - 10 years

I am having problem with the washer. It started by not agitating. I started by trying to remove the agitator, but when I pulled it out, then entire thing pulled out, shaft and all. That is not supposed to happen is it?

Also, with the assembly put back into place, it still will not agitate. It will drain and spin, but when it tries to agitate it is almost like the clutch on the motor shaft does not want to work.

Any ideas? This is really a bad time because last week out 8 year old Jenn Air fridge stopped working correctly. When it rains, it pours...

If the shaft came up then the transmission is bad and has to be replaced. If you are going to fix this washer then you have to check the agitator coupling and the agitator itself.

Here are the break down diagrams for the GE washer Model WPSQ3120T5WW

Gene,

The agitator and coupling seem to be good.... not quite sure how to get the agitator off the coupling with the shaft out of the tranny though. The tranny is $134 and I think I might even need a new clutch (it will let the tub spin but when it tries to agitate, it is like the clutch will not engage and the motor shaft just spins the pulley, but the belt is not moving...).

I am not sure this 10 year old washer (that I have already replaced the motor in once) is worth putting more $$ into it.

If you are relacing the tranny yourself,it's worth fixing. Clutch probably ok.
You can clamp vice grips on the tranny and pound off the agitator and coupler. Best to use a bench vice and just yank it off.
