Hi, I am trying to replace the pump for my washing machine. I have taken off the metal straps that hold the pump in place, but I can't remove the pump from the motor. It is a direct drive pump. Can you tell me how to take it off?

The pump will pull off the motor shaft, normally.
I assume you want to replace the pump because it has a leak. Well, when that happens on these models the rust on the pump part that the shaft from the motor goes into essentially "welds" itself to the shaft.
You need to apply enough pressure to the pump to get it off, without damaging the motor or its shaft. If you need to, you can of course obliterate the pump since you are replacing it.
