my admiral aw20n2v washer will fill with water but then just makes a buzzing noise and gets an electrical burning smell. i can get it going sometimes by twisting the agitator by hand or shaking the whole washer. im thinking transmission, what do you think?

I am thinking the brakes are not releasing, which is a medium difficulty repair but requires a brake removal tool to deal with the brake spring which is under 200lbs of pressure and somewhat dangerous to fool with without one.

You could try replacing the thrust bearing, this part here which releases the brakes.
