washer won't agitate

My maytag will fill and move through the cycle with no wash agitation, it does do the middle cycle spin, rinse and empty. Then will fill again with no wash agitation, but will move to and preform the final rinse, spin and empty and turns off. Any ideas to what the problem is. Thanks.

If it is agitating in the rinse cycle then the timer would seem to be the problem.
