Hello, I have a Maytag LS7806 stacking washer (and dryer) that was purchased by the previous home owner so I don't know how old it is (trying to find out). The washer worked fine until it suddenly began to squeal and smoke during a wash cycle. I stopped the washer and looked at the belt. The belt had a slight burn mark at the motor side. I removed the pulley to have a look at the transmission shaft. It looked like this. I couldn't see anything and didn't really know what to look for anyway. I thought the pulley was slipping over the lug when turning clockwise and then locking as it climbed up the shaft threads so I tried reinstalling the lug. I obviously didn't position it properly as the pulley skipped over the lug once and fell off the shaft a second time. I repositioned the lug again and then the machine went through an entire wash cycle but during the spin cycle it agitated instead of spinning. I repositioned the lug yet again and now the washer will agitate during the wash cycle but will not spin (or agitate) during the spin cycle. The motor tries to turn the pulley clockwise but cannot. Rotating the drum manually is possible but hard as there is a fair bit of resistance. There is nothing caught between the drum and the tub. Please help me fix the problem. Thanks.

I cannot get your model number to come up, but in general your symptoms are consistent with a problem of the brake not releasing to allow spin.
