Older Maytag washer leaks from the left side while the water is filling the tank. Are there any hoses going to the top of the tank and how do you open the washer to check for loose hoses?

Hi rboyd
In order to provide the most accurate advise I need the complete model number of your washer. You can find it on top of the control panel. Gene.

MODEL LAT9593AAL
Facing the washer, the small leak is coming from right front corner. I had a GE washer that did this once. However, it was a large leak. The repair said it was off balance. He adjusted the legs and it work ok. Could this be the same case. Do I just maybe need to adjust the legs/or tub could be off balance? Wonderwomanbee |

Hi Wonderwomanbee
Remove the front panel and you will see exactly where the water coming from. Then replace the leaking part and enjoy. - Here are the break down diagrams for the Maytag washer Model LAT9593AAL Good luck. Gene.

Gene,
Thanks for your help. I took the front panel off and the leak is at the base of the tub. So it looks like, I would need a mounting stem & boot seal. I was hoping to repair it myself. It looks like some work to take it apart. I am not sure where to start. Is it easy to replace or with no experience would it be wiser for me to call a repair man. I also see the part is not cheap. Give me some feedback. Thanks, Wonderwomanbee |

Hi Wonderwomanbee
Yes, you were right. In such situation the mounting stem and boot seal has to be replaced. I can not say this is a very simple job, but with a basic knowledge how to use a hand tools you can do it. You have to have: 1. The spanner wrench - part number AP3538707 2. A set of socket wrenches 3. A set of hex keys 4. A 1/4' nut driver 5. A hummer You can find the complete instructions how to replace the mounting stem and boot seal on page 3-35 in the service manual. Good luck. Gene.
