Model Number: 110.22872100 Brand: Kenmore Age: 5 - 10 years
Hi,
I just replaced a clutch on a kenmore washer that agitated/filled/drained but didnt spin. I replaced the motor coupler while I was at it just in case. After putting the clutch back in I did a quick test to see if it spins ok. The basket spins great. Cool. I put the agitator back on, and threw clothes in for a test run. Fills, agitates fine...at first...then starts agitating slower...and slower...then stops. Now it wont spin or agitate. Fills and drains ok. The motor turns on and off with the lid switch while in spin cycle so i dont think its that. I can turn the basket by hand. The motor coupler is ok. I put it in spin cycle and popped off the drain tube housing so I could see inside while it ran and the clutch housing doesnt spin. Transmission? It was agitating before the clutch repair, kinda weird it would break at the same time im repairing something else, but I guess its possible. On a side note, when i bought this brand new from sears it wouldnt run when installed. They sent someone out to fix it. I just noticed the "refurbished" sticker on the transmission. Despite paying for one from sears, I guess this washer was never new. Kinda annoyed at that. Ads By Google Related Models |

If the clutch is not turning then the transmission is not turning, and you know the motor is turning because the pump is running. This suggests to me that the transmission is bad.
Since Sears put in a used instead of a new transmission I would contact them and see if they will at least send you a new transmission free of charge.
