Maytag 'insignia' washer, model MTW5830TW0, SN CU1840134. Used, just installed. Runs fine - except - -

When it gets to a spin it starts smoothly, then starts making very loud noises, like the insides are coming apart or clashing.

With the lid open, moving the agitator roughly side to side seems to make similar noises.

It runs through the cycles ok, does not leak, fills and empties ok.

i worry this may be something major? How can i pin down the problem and/or fix it?

Thanks.
Rick

This is really a Whirlpool made direct drive washer. I suspect there is a problem with your support springs, or somethng broken in the support system.

Take off the cabinet, inspect the supports and the pads, and replace the springs, since they are inexpensive and then operate it with the cabinet off by by-passing the lid switch and if you still have the problem, see if you can determine its source.

You could have a loose spin basket, just check.

good one - springs seem to be in place, but the 3-legged suspension plate has one leg broken / split. That grates with some vibration when in spin mode and seems to be the source of much of the noise.

Overall suspension seems a bit loose? there is only one spring, in the rear, holding things down vertically.

Ok to keep running it as is?

There is only one spring in the rear on these models, if you want you cn click on your model number and you will be taken to an exploded view of your model.

You can run it with the bad support but eventually it will tear something else up. Given that you bought it used and the cost of the part, I would say go ahead and operate it if you can stand the noise and when it fails, get another used one like it. Normally they are very good machines and seems like you just had some bad luck with this one.
