I haven't been able to use fabric softener in my washing for a few years now, because the dispenser doesn't work right. Water will not flow into the container that has the softener liquid in it. How do I fix this? I can't get to the back of the washer to see the model number, but it matches my dryer (MDE4000AYW).

Without a model number I can only speculate that the inlet valve assembly is the problem. We really need a model number to say anything more.
